Jamie Ward is a public relations practitioner with nine years of university teaching experience and over a decade of professional nonprofit public relations experience. Jamie is an alumnus of EMU’s communication program where she earned her master’s degree. Her Ph.D. is from Bowling Green State University.
Jamie is a social scientist who uses methodologies and theories from communications, media studies, cultural studies, sociology and education. Her work focuses on storytelling for advocacy and engagement. She explores ideologies, frames and stereotypes within popular culture in order to bring marginalized perspectives and experiences into dialogues with dominate narratives.
While seemingly disparate in topic, ranging from music lyrics to YouTube content, LGBT publics to war veterans, her work is linked by a commitment to examining the ways in which marginalized groups are constructed, transformed and challenged within popular culture spaces. Jamie has presented at several national conferences and her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Public Relations Journal.
