The Ann Arbor Film Festival offers hands-on experience in the day to day operations of our modest arts organization. About the Ann Arbor Film Festival:
The Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF) is the longest-running independent and experimental film festival in North America, and is internationally recognized as a premiere forum for avant-garde filmmakers. We prominently feature the work of independent artists making short films, crossing boundaries, breaking  expectations and experimenting with concepts and techniques. Our mission is to support bold, visionary filmmakers, advance the art form of film and new media, and engage communities with remarkable cinematic experiences. The six-day festival presents 40 programs with more than 180 films from over 20 countries of all lengths and genres, including experimental, animation, documentary, fiction, and performance-based works. It takes place in the historic Michigan Theater in downtown Ann Arbor, Michigan. There were over 11,000 in attendance at the 53rd AAFF in March 2015. The 54th AAFF will take place March 15-20, 2016.

In addition to exhibiting over one hundred new films in juried programs each year, the AAFF presents filmmaker retrospectives, gallery installations, panel discussions, historic and thematic surveys and contemporary artist programs. Thousands of influential filmmakers and artists have exhibited early work at the AAFF, including Kenneth Anger, Agnes Varda, Andy Warhol, Gus Van Sant, Barbara Hammer, George Lucas, Les Blank, Matthew Buckingham, and James Benning.

The AAFF Marketing Internship:
The position requires a commitment of 12-15 hour per week. Responsibilities include drafting and formatting press releases and newsletters, assisting in developing 54th AAFF press kit, events listings, social media, marketing survey, and support for outreach events. The Marketing Intern will work closely with the AAFF Executive Director. Other assignments may be given depending on candidate interest and organizational need.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and dependable individual who enjoys working with others and has an outgoing personality with excellent communication skills. The candidate should be attentive to detail, highly organized, willing to learn, and possess a keen interest in experiencing the world of non-profit media/visual arts. The candidate must have experience in both research and writing, which are essential aspects of the internship.

All interns receive a full pass for Festival week, March 15-20, 2016, and are expected to be on hand both to assist with a wide range of tasks, as well as to watch films. During this time, the Marketing Intern will continue involvement in maintaining a strong social media presence, as well as be responsible for the execution of the marketing survey, and may work in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator to carry it through. Directly after the Festival, the Marketing Intern will collate survey results. Feedback and reflections in the form of a “wrap report” is the final assignment.

Compensation is available as college credit.
