Announcing: Two open positions on the PRSSA executive board

EMU PRSSA is announcing the opening of two executive board positions. Currently, we are seeking a vice president of special events and programs and an editor-in-chief for our blog and website.

To apply for either of these positions, please submit a Letter of Intent stating why you want the position, why you would be a good fit and how you can contribute to EMU PRSSA. If you’re applying for the editor-in-chief position, you’re also welcome to submit writing samples.

EMU PRSSA e-board members must be able to commit to weekly Tuesday evening meeting from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (they rarely last the full three hours, but the commitment is necessary for if-needed planning and other purposes). Among other things, e-board must also be able to contribute monthly blog posts, assist with special events, hold two office hours weekly in our Student Center office, and serve as ambassadors of PRSSA and EMU.

Holding a position on the e-board is like having an internship, you learn a great deal about PR and a lot of skills that you can use in the future. This isn’t just a resume builder, only serious applicants should apply.

Editor-in-Chief of Publications

The EIC plans and organizes the EMU PRSSA blog and website, manages the overall process of deadlines, layout, design and placement of articles, assists with special projects, keeps members up-to-date with news and information.

They perform the duties of the vice president of member relations if he/she is unable to do so. The EIC must post themselves at least once weekly as well as post meeting previews and recaps. They must solicit at least one blog per month from the EMU PRSSA executive board as well as solicit blog posts from guest bloggers, EMU PRSSA members and EMU students.

To qualify for this position, an applicant must have previous and relevant experience with WordPress, blogging, writing and editing as well as the ability to work under pressure with deadlines. The EIC must be well versed in AP Style and grammar.

Vice President of Special Events and Programs

The VP of special events and programs plans and organizes at least three agency tours (along with the vice president of professional development), plans special events for members, assists the vice president of professional development with the planning of the Spring Gala, assists with fundraising efforts and events, and coordinates annual events including the Student Development Conference (held in December) and Speed Mentoring (held in March).

The VP of events is responsible for planning Fajita Fest (Labor Day evening), Winterfest (held Jan. 13, 2014), and fall and winter kickoff meetings. They are also responsible for helping the president plan meetings and finding guest speakers. The person in this position also assisting the vice president of member relations with recruitment events and efforts.

If you are interested in either of these positions, please submit your Letter of Intent and resume to EMU PRSSA President Emily Vontom via email no later than Monday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. A special election will be held with e-board members on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and the position results will be revealed during the Winter Kickoff meeting that night.
